On Conflict

Our brains require stimulation. In one way or another, we always look for it. Some of us look for stimulation of our physical senses. Others search for other external stimuli such as conversation or discussion. Still fewer of us seek inner stimulation.

Few of us seek to use the same content, to remix and create with what we already have. The same can never stimulate like the different. The same produces a resistance, familiarity, expectations, comfort. That is why our entertainment centers around conflict whether it be sports, dramas, novels, debate, politics, or even business.

We say we want peace. Yet, the truth is, few actually do. If we had peace, many would be forced to confront our internal conflict. Most of us fear dealing with this because like every story arch, the end follows a resolution. Many of us fear, not the end of our story, but the end result. We fear becoming the final version, for it may not be what we want. We forget, that we may, yet, win.

Day 5- 100 Days of Gratitude

Sunday, June 10, 2018

  • I am beyond grateful that I have my grandfather at close distance. For years, I wondered the type of man he was and if I would ever truly get to know him. Speaking over the phone and seeing him once does not show me all of who he is or allow me to connect with him. Now that he is here, I am better able to appreciate him and the wisdom he imparts on me.
  • I am grateful for faith and for having been born into a family of faith. Although not the most knowledgeable or the most faithful, my family is one very supportive of my growing in faith. Their gentle pushes away from sin and towards God have guided me towards a path I do not know I could have found on my own.
  • Lastly. Thank God for showing me that life is more than rules and norms. Life is about feelings and experiences, connections and sharing.

Day 4- 100 Days of Gratitude

Saturday June 9, 2018

  • Today, I am extremely grateful that we, as humans, are essentially good. Evidence keeps piling up, so even when the news continues to show how hopeless the human race is, know that people are good, and not everyone wants to steal, rob, or hurt you in any way.
  • Family is the strongest support system I have ever had, as well as the longest standing. A million thanks to the people who have had and continue to have my back.
  • Lastly, I am thankful for my mother’s cooking skills. Grateful to her for making us food, always, but also, grateful that her cooking is delicious and filled with love. :))

Day 3- 100 Days of Gratitude

Friday, June 8, 2018

  • Today, I’d like to give extra special thanks to God. I am always grateful for giving me life and making me in his image, but today I’d like to thank him for the capacity to learn, because that is what I love most about myself.
  • I would also like to express my gratitude for the ability to love. It is hard to love sometimes, but always worth it.
  • Lastly, thank God for good cheap food! I really mean this. Quality over quantity always, but when I can have both, my wallet thins little, as my body thickens much.

Day 2- 100 Days of Gratitude

Thursday, June 7, 2018

  • I am grateful that I can live without worrying about sustenance. With this luxury, I have the freedom to pursue the adventures I please. Whether these be physical, mental, spiritual, or intellectual, I can do mostly what I like and for that I must thank my parents.
  • I am grateful to have found a special person. Not everyone does, especially not this young and for that I feel fortunate.
  • Lastly, I am grateful for the lessons that keep coming my way. I am a long ways from knowledgeable or wise, and have a huge appreciation for those who care enough to impart knowledge.
